You’re reading this because What a Day is born and we want you to know about itWhat a Day is an interdisciplinary platform of creatives that researches and experiments with new ways of artistic expression through the co-creation between different styles and artistic disciplines. The collective promotes plural creations, new musical and artistic projects and intends to give voice to emerging artists in Berlin.
Primarily focused on the musical field, it evokes a contemporary language resulting from the coalition from distinct musical identities and their diverse expressive means and forms of art. WaD wants to benefit from the differences of every project to propose something rich and interesting to the world. At the same time, it wishes to impulse their integrants’ professional development, to support artists financially and institutionally and to provide stability to freelance creatives.
Moreover, the collective will reinforce creatives through virtual platforms for promotion (website, audio/visual streaming services) as well as providing the members with aspects like social support or communal net lacking in the solo freelancer path. Accordingly, it aims to supply a physical space for artistic research and gathering: a hybrid place for creation, rehearsal, shooting and recording.
In the long term, What a Day aims to be established in the area as an inclusive focal point for reunion, social and cultural exchange.

The collective was originally founded by Santiago Gervasoni and Mireia Peñalver i Guilleumes, both musicians and composers based in Berlin. Thought to become cooperative tissue, WaD aims to be curated by the different artists present in the collective as we understand the content, organisation and decision-making in a collaborative sense.
It’s in the bridge formed by different perspectives or disciplines where we find the purpose and the interest of creating together and thus it’s significant for WaD that everyone involved not only has a say, but feels equally invested in the project.
What a Day currently consists of the following six initiatives, though we expect to welcome more artists as the collective consolidates and expands:

The presentation of the collective will consist of a video-series featuring projects from various artists. The performances revolve around a conceptual “Capsule” - in this case, Resonance - that will serve the purpose to define and represent What a Day. A Capsule is an abstract but unitary concept able to provide a vast landscape from which every project can channel their own language. In this manner, the presentation favours the artistic melange that WaD proposes and creates content that has a sense and direction: value and interest for us and the audience.
The series will broadcast 4 separated videos, granting a space from 3-6 min for a performance by four of our ensembles/projects under the umbrella of the given Capsule. What a Day will also release an album compiling the audio performances from the shooting.
